Tiny Town Development Update

​I know things have been quiet here the last while, but that doesn’t mean tings have stopped, in fact there is more happening than ever before. 

First I want to welcome Melissa Robar as Communications Manager and Sean Warring as Research Manager. Both bring a lot of experience and enthusiasm to the project. You can read their bios by clicking on their photo’s from the Advisory Board page.

Our focus this year despite the global pandemic, is to prepare for the building of a Demonstration Tiny Town. This project will become a living, affordable tiny home community, include a neighbourhood where invited delegations of city administrators will be able to experience the community lifestyle and provide an opportunity to visually display our Tiny Town vision. We have identified a number of ways that tiny homes can fit into society, with Tiny Towns providing a unique supportive community experience. The project proposal details are posted here.

The project proposal has been sent to each provincial/territorial housing Ministry, CMHC and the Prime Minister’s office. We are working to send it out to all 124 first level cities we have identified as Tiny Town hosts. Our list of host cities can be found here.

Welcome Maria

Friday’s shout-out goes to Maria Guerrero who recently joined our Advisory Board. As an Architect, her dream is to help the world reach true freedom, peace, and happiness by designing beautiful, magical sacred spaces where people can enjoy the journey of reaching their highest self through a creative lifestyle. I feel that Maria will make a strong addition to the Board as she has works to design our Tiny Town community spaces. Welcome, Maria! Welcome Sheena

A shout-out today to Sheena Jardine-Olade who recently joined our Advisory Board. With a background in urban planning, arts, and culture, environmental management, stakeholder engagement and research, Sheena channels her experience and out-of-the-box thinking into innovative solutions and strategies that generate unique solutions.

I feel that Sheena will make a strong addition to the Board as she has already been actively helping with edits to the website content and grant applications. Her blog, the Tiny Home News will bring tiny home/community-related articles to the Association website. Welcome, Sheena!

Advisory Board Discussions are now Open

I have now begun posting to the Advisory Board Discussions. This is where all plans and discussions about the direction of the Tiny Town Association will develop. All members of the Advisory Board are encouraged to follow and comment in any discussion that interests you, as this will form the basis for the Associations actions.

The first discussion started is regarding designing the model for Tiny Towns. I believe that building with a plan will create a better town, so I have posted my initial thoughts (well thoughts that have developed over the last year or so) and I look forward to the board’s comments. I have started with the town design as a discussion as I am beginning discussions with suppliers about town services.

Currently the Advisory Board is open to new members, so if you think you can contribute to the association’s plans, I encourage you to become a member of the board. Simply log into the site and update your profile to indicate you want to join the board or register and select Advisory Board member as a way you would like to Participate.
