Every town struggles with accommodating vulnerable and homeless people. The need for affordable housing continues to grow, yet traditional builders and developers struggle to be able to provide the housing required, within the timeframe and budgets available. Thehas created a plan to address this issue in 133 cities and towns across Canada.
The Association proposes to build Tiny Towns in these locations and increase the availability of affordable housing. Once available, Tiny Towns will appeal to current and prospective tiny homeowners as a sensible network to locate their homes within. In addition, the towns will provide a number of tiny homes under the existing government Affordable Housing programs. This blend of homeowners choosing to live a minimalistic lifestyle together with people who are transitioning from having nothing, is expected to be a great benefit to participants in the program. The appeal of theplan to current and wannabe owners is they will have a network of locations, where they can legally park that are close to the cities and towns where they work. They will be able to take their with them when they relocate, and not need to own the land they park on in each town where they reside.
The list we have assembled provides information about the host cities where we plan to build the first Tiny Towns. These host cities have been ranked based on their 2016 population statistics. The complete Canadian city list is more extensive than what is displayed, as small cities with populations less than 40,000 residents are not currently shown. As the network develops and demand for services is analyzed on a case by case basis, this list will evolve.
I have been reluctant to post updates because many projects are still in the works, but I wanted to keep everyone aware that progress is being made, on a number of fronts:
If you aren't a member of the Association, you may want to consider joining. Your membership helps support the work we are doing and keeps you informed first. We always post first in the Blog before on our social feeds.
If you want to get your hands dirty, by volunteering in some capacity, drop us an email and let us know how you would like to help. We appreciate all the help we get, and are looking to develop new projects and partnerships, so nothing is off the table.
More exciting news to come, but that's all for now. #JOY
